New York State Lead Rental Registry Law Now in Effect
The new Lead Rental Registry, established under New York State Public Health Law § 1377, is now in effect in the 13021-zip code. The law, effective November 3, 2025, aims to prevent childhood lead poisoning by identifying and addressing lead hazards in rental housing before children are exposed. Zip code 13021, which comprises the City of Auburn, is among 25 New York State “communities of concern,” characterized by elevated rates of childhood lead poisoning and older rental housing stock. Paying Water Bills by Mail - Payments sent in the mail can only be accepted as timely by the date postmarked on the envelope. Without a postmark on the envelope, mailed payments will be accepted and processed with the date they were received. It is suggested that when making a water payment by mail near the due date, that you take it to the post office and have it manually date stamped by the post office. Metered mail DOES NOT constitute a postmark.
THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT CHANGE REGARDING MAILING OF PAYMENTS!
USPS CHANGED POSTMARK RULES
You also must be aware if paying through your banks online check payment, they are also mailed without a postmark.
It does not matter what the date on the check is, again we must go by a postmark date. (When paying online through your bank, they state the date it will arrive, so no excuse can be accepted).
Have a great day!!
